Respected industry policy expert Emeritus Professor Roy Green will feature as a key note speaker at GMC’s flagship Technology & Innovation Summit on 29–30 April 2026. Green, whose credentials in Australia’s innovation ecosystem is without peer, will discuss the pressing need for “bold reform” in Australia’s research and innovation system following the release of the Ambitious Australia report.
The report, produced through the national Strategic Examination of R&D (SERD), paints a challenging picture of Australia’s economic outlook. It notes that Australia now has the smallest manufacturing share of GDP among advanced economies. Business investment in R&D and productivity growth are also at historic lows, trends he says must be reversed to secure long‑term prosperity.
Professor Green will explore how Australia can build a stronger innovation ecosystem, drawing on successful international models, and what this could mean for local industry as global competitors advance rapidly in new technologies and commercial strategies.
The Technology & Innovation Summit will give Geelong’s manufacturers the opportunity to engage directly with these themes. Across two days, the program will examine pathways to faster commercialisation, the next wave of sustainability innovations, and the creation of high‑skilled jobs that will underpin Australia’s prosperity in the decade ahead.
Step into the future of advanced manufacturing.
